The, by now, annual Patrick Pierce 9 hour hike took place last Saturday, 10th September, in very good conditions. The forecast suggested a weather window on Saturday sandwiched between very bad conditions on Friday and Sunday. We did get a downpour for about 15 minutes mid hike and gale force winds for the last descent which made that section somewhat challenging. The 10 Ramblers and the four Pierces (Patrick, with sons Conor and Fergal and daughter Neasa) were nonetheless up for the challenge.
Everyone, without exception, thoroughly enjoyed the day and many thanks to Patrick from the rest of the Ramblers for a great experience. Patrick celebrated his 80th birthday this week (Happy Birthday) and is an inspiration for the rest of us.
The stats from Viewranger are below together with a selection of photos which give some insight into the terrain and challenges. The Garmin users dispute the numbers and claim it was higher and longer, but sure who cares, it was a great achievement whatever the stats.
Roundstone hosted the group for the weekend where we enjoyed outstanding hospitality and exceptional food (seafood). Hopefully, this will continue to be an annual Ramblers event for the future.
